Details of the Buller River area through to Nelson region for your use to find where to go, what to do.

One of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand. I consider the Buller River probably one of the finest in the world for scenic wonder and for river sports. The drive is spectacular especially along the lower Buller prior to Westport. You will have a few heart rendering spots when taking a large vehicle through here. Quite safe.... just different. The road twists and turns and narrows but all is well maintained and marked. Some good places to stop for photos and also river access plus a few for overnight stays.

Murchison is a small town but if you want to see a bit of history and have a meal stop in the centre of town at the Commercial Hotel. You will not be disappointed.
It is a great place to explore the area with the Buller River offering a lot of activities and a number of walks.
This is the heart of river kayaking.
The place to stay the night and enjoy the area is the
Riverview Holiday Park . Make sure you check out their new cafe right on the river.

42 kms toward Westport is a small junction named Inangahua. In the centre of town is an old building with just a sign on it "earthquake". Be sure to stop here. It is a must. It is about the most understated interesting historical information I have ever seen!
