Welcome
to
the constantly traveling website.
"We
take our travel seriously so you can take it easy"
Hi
everyone from Ron & Paula,
We
welcome you to On the Road New Zealand. We are here to provide
you with New Zealand travel information and create for you a holiday
experience that will be the highlight of your life.
Here is a brief introduction so you know who we are and how we are able
to know about traveling this country.
Ron
-
I am originally from the US and have extensively traveled the world. I
was born in Ohio but call the Florida Keys my real home. Sailed all the
Caribbean, lived in Mexico, and Belize. Been to Europe, South America,
Central America, Canada, Asia, and islands of the Pacific, Australia
and all the US except Alaska. My favourite is New Zealand.
First visited New Zealand in 1989 traveling the length and breadth of
the
country for six weeks in a campervan. Met Paula in
Queenstown. After my return home she came to the US to visit. We have
been married now since 1990 and have shared some of the above
lifestyle together.
Returned to New Zealand from our home on Holbox, a remote island in
Mexico, in 1992.
Paula
-
Paula was born in the Taranaki region of the North Island but soon
migrated to the South Island where she built a home in the Marlborough
Sounds that could only be reached by boat. She gold mined, worked
mussel farms. Lived in Queenstown
and Riverton. She is an interior designer and seamstress par
excellence, a gourmet cook and a jewellery designer.
Paula's designs can
be seen on her website:
New Zealand
Jewellery.

The two of us have now been on the road full time since leaving
management jobs in Wellington July 2003 having spent the
travel mostly in the South Island. In the winter months of June, July
and August we travel the North Island.
Every
major highway, every city and town large or small
we have visited in every region of the South Island and most of the
North plus a majority of the secondary roads. We have discovered hidden
treasures unknown to anyone but perhaps the locals. We love good food
and wine. Paula visits all the galleries and museums to sell her
jewellery.
We
are coffee addicts searching out only the best. As a
result we also have a website of what we feel are the best places to
find good
coffee New Zealand
Coffee Guide.
We
visit and check out wineries and restaurants, lodges and
holiday parks, activities and walks, and local pubs for the real feel
of New Zealand as a part of our schedule. Ron carries a fly rod, a
spinning rod and a surf rod and all the gear to try to tempt a few fish
on line. Not very good at it though. Never mind we have sought out and
discovered the best places to buy fresh fish along the way.
Ron
now writes for the New Zealand Motorhomes and Destinations magazine and
has a travel column in the bi-monthly issue of the New Zealand Motor
Home Assn. plus does photograpy work for several Festivals.
So,
enough rambling, the whole idea is to provide you
with quality knowledge for discovering the real New Zealand. We are
your personal guides. As you can see we concentrate on the South Island
but we do travel in the North more than the normal visitor.
What
we will do first is provide a complete tour pointing out the routes,
describe the trip and what to
expect as you drive along. Then we will expand that to describe side
trips and additional information that may be useful broken down into
regions.
Ron uses a Nikon D70 SLR digital camera and will constantly be
uploading photos of the areas we travel. Perhaps as we move along we
will meet and you can be a part of our photo gallery online and provide
your trip information to others also on our site.
Anyhow
time to get down to being of some help...
Be
sure to send your questions along so we can find out
what you would like to know. We will do their
best to provide you with everything you need for a quality adventure.
Oh
By the way here is Sylvester the cat, pen in hand
phone by his side, who rides shotgun every
where we go.
and a rare photo of Sylvester & Chocolate getting along.
The only help they actually provide is to get a hair in my lens though!
